FIRST AID MEASURES

Eyes

Rinse eyes with a flow of water for at least 15 minutes holding eyelids apart to ensure complete irrigation of all eye and lid tissues. Washing eyes within several seconds of exposure is essential to achieve maximum effectiveness. Seek medical advise immediately.

Skin

Rinse contaminated areas with water as soon as possible. Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash contaminated areas with plenty of soap and water. Seek medical advise immediately.

Inhalation

Move to fresh air. If not possible try to provide fresh air by ventilation. If breathing is difficult, have a trained person administer oxygen. If respiration or pulse has stopped, administer Basic Life Support and call for emergency services immediately.

Ingestion

If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Give large quantities of water. (If possible, give several glasses of milk.) If vomiting occurs spontaneously, keep airway clear and give more water or milk. Seek medical advise immediately.

STORAGE AND HANDLING

Storage

Keep in tightly closed and properly labeled containers. Do not store in aluminum container or use aluminum fittings as flammable hydrogen gas can be produced.

Handling

Use in the areas with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing dust and wear personal protective clothing and equipment.

Standardize after 15 minutes.

Standardization:

 By means of weighing bottle transfer 1.8 to 2.2 gram of oven dried AR grade Na2CO3 in 250 ml clean glass beaker. Add 50 ml of freshly boiled and cold distilled water and dissolve the material by means of glass rod. Titrate this against 1 N HCl to be standardized using ‘A’ grade burette and 5 drops of methyl orange indicator

Colour changes from yellow to light red. note down the burette reading (BR)

0.1N.HCl          : Pipette out 50 ml of 1 N Hcl into 500 ml of columerised flask and dilute  to 500 ml  

Phenolphthalein : Dissolve 0.1 gram of phenolphthalein in 60 ml of ethyl alcohol. Make  up the volume to 100 ml with distilled water Methyle Orange: Dissolve 0.1 gram of methyle orange in 100ml of distilled water
